United Photo Industries Welcomes
Community Heroes

A community organizing and public art project celebrating everyday heroes, neighborhood by neighborhood.

Featuring: Over 60 artists + expanding!

We are excited to share a new United Photo Industries collaboration with you!

Community Heroes is a community organizing and public art project celebrating everyday heroes, neighborhood by neighborhood. The project was co-founded in 2016 by UPI team member Jasmin Chang and Zac Martin of Trellis in their neighborhoods of Fort Greene and Gowanus. Through long-term engagement with neighbors and local organizations, Community Heroes has become part of the fabric of these neighborhoods and a way for artists and residents to come together to celebrate their community through public art.

UPI is thrilled to lead Community Heroes in this next chapter by expanding the project to make it available to new neighborhoods across NYC! We believe deeply in the power of public photography, and we are excited to create new opportunities for neighborhoods to make and exhibit photography in a hyper-local and collaborative way; kicking off with an exhibition at this year’s Photoville in Brooklyn Bridge Park.

Stay tuned for more news, and reach out if you’d like to bring Community Heroes in your neighborhood! In the meantime, we invite you to learn more about the project, meet a few heroes and visit the exhibition in Fort Greene Park and Commodore Barry Park (up through August 17).
